What’s Worth Learning? Conceptual Learning in the PYP - Workhsop with Tania Lattanzio
This interactive professional learning day for all PYP educators will explore the role of conceptual learning in the PYP and how it serves as the foundation for building understanding, transdisciplinary learning and inquiry. Educators will examine how to design learning experiences that prioritize understanding, promote transfer, and position students as active constructors of meaning in their learning.

Through this PYP-focused learning experience, educators will:
Examine what is worth learning within the context of the PYP and the power of conceptual learning.
Deepen their understanding of conceptual learning as a framework for inquiry and transdisciplinary connections.
Investigate how concepts serve as a bridge for meaningful, interconnected learning across disciplines.
Explore how conceptual learning promotes transfer, enabling students to apply their understanding in new and authentic contexts.
Investigate strategies that emphasize conceptual understanding, deep learning and student agency.
Engage with provocations, learning experiences, and strategies that cultivate deep thinking, inquiry, and meaning-making.
Empower students as inquirers and critical thinkers, helping them construct, refine, and extend their conceptual understandings over time.
ABOUT TANIA LATTANZIO
Previously a teacher, coordinator and manager with the International Baccalaureate, Tania is now Director of Innovative Global Education. Innovative Global Education has been established for over 10 years and in this time, Tania has worked as an educational consultant globally, in both local and international educational settings.
A key focus of Tania’s work is developing and designing conceptual curriculum for schools. This work involves conceptualising curriculum across subject areas and year levels. This also involves equipping teachers with ideas and strategies to ensure that learning has a conceptual focus.
An advocate of inquiry, she works with educators to provide students with an education that is purposeful, meaningful, and relevant to their lives, where students have opportunities to be motivated and have agency and control of their learning.
A passionate educator, Tania works closely with educational institutions through supporting school reform and making significant shifts in pedagogy. Tania conducts professional learning for teachers and leadership, models pedagogy in classrooms, and works intensively with teaching teams, through mentoring and coaching. Tania has worked with schools and teachers from early childhood through to high school.
