Lab Site Facilitation: Bringing Theory to Life in Classrooms

Tania Lattanzio works alongside educators through lab site facilitation, a powerful model of professional learning that takes theory off the page and into the classroom.

Through collaborative planning, in-class modelling, and reflective dialogue, Tania partners with teachers to design and implement learning that is conceptually rich, inquiry-driven, and responsive to students. Each lab site is rooted in the current learning taking place in your school, ensuring relevance and real-time application.

Lab sites create a safe and energising space for professional growth where learning is visible, collaborative, and grounded in your real context. They help educators bridge the gap between knowing and doing, and support sustained shifts in teaching practice.

The Process

The process typically involves:

  1. Collaborative planning with teachers to align learning intentions, design engagements, and consider resourcing

  2. In-class modelling, where Tania teaches with or for teachers, demonstrating strategies that bring the focus of the modelling to life

  3. Professional reflection, where educators come together to unpack what was observed, connect practice to pedagogy, and consider next steps

Case Studies

Planning and Modelling in the Classroom - Anglo American School, Moscow

Working collaboratively with the teaching team, we planned a lesson focused on the concept of innovation. To spark curiosity, we began by introducing students to a selection of old artefacts. Using a See, Think, Wonder routine, students explored the artefacts and recorded their thinking. They then examined modern versions of the same items and matched them to the originals. This led to a discussion about how and why the artefacts had changed over time, introducing the concept of innovation in a meaningful and engaging way.

Modelling Lessons at TISA (The International School of Azerbaijan), Baku, Azerbaijan

This involved modelling how to create and set up an Early Years environment that fosters curiosity, inviting children to engage in learning through investigation, sense-making, and theory-building.

Modelling Lessons at Coomera College, Queensland, Australia

As part of their learning about exploration, students engaged in an experience designed collaboratively with teachers to immerse them in the role of an explorer. They explored both indoor and outdoor environments, investigating what it means to be an explorer, what explorers seek, and how they document their discoveries.
